Every Claude Code session, parked where it belongs.

Hangar is a native macOS terminal for running several Claude Code sessions across several projects at once. Sessions live in project groups that start in the right directory, and every row tells you which ones are waiting on you.

Free · macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon & Intel

Why Hangar

A flat row of tabs stops working at the third project

Running Claude Code in parallel means a pile of identical tabs, each one needing a cd before it's useful, and no way to tell which one finished ten minutes ago and is sitting on a permission prompt. Hangar organizes sessions the way you think about the work: by project.

  • Collapsible project groups, each with its own default directory
  • New sessions start in the right place, no cd required
  • Four clear states per row: running, needs attention, idle, exited
  • A real terminal with a full PTY, so every shell command works
Group
One project. A name, a default directory, an optional colour and icon, and its sessions.
Session
One terminal, one shell process, belonging to exactly one group.
Default directory
Set per group. Running cd inside a session never changes it.
Override
Any single session can start somewhere else with ⌥⌘T.

Features

A real terminal, tuned for Claude Code

01

Status that means something

"Needs attention" fires on a bell, or when output stops after real activity while you're looking elsewhere: the shape of a run that finished or hit a prompt. It can raise a notification that jumps straight to the session.

02

Claude Code hooks

One click installs a small hook so status comes from Claude Code itself: done when a turn ends, needs input with Claude's own message. Your previous settings file is kept as a backup.

03

Worktree sessions

Spin up a branch in its own checkout beside the repository and open Claude there, so several sessions work on one repo without editing the same files.

04

Conversation browser

Every conversation Claude Code stored for a project and its worktrees, newest first. Resume opens a session in the directory it ran in, or jumps to the one that already holds it.

05

Keyboard first

A quick switcher, jump-to-group, next-session-needing-attention, find in scrollback, and ⇧⌘O to open a selected file:line in your editor.

06

Designed for every eye

Palettes for deuteranopia, protanopia, tritanopia and monochromacy, each verified by simulation and enforced in tests, plus a mode that adds shapes so no state depends on colour.

Shortcuts

Hands stay on the keyboard

Groups are numbered, sessions cycle like tabs, and the attention shortcut always takes you to whoever has been waiting longest.

Download

Signed, notarized, ready to run

Hangar is distributed directly rather than through the Mac App Store, because a terminal can't live in the App Sandbox. Every build is signed with our Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens without Gatekeeper warnings.

  1. Download the installer and open it.
  2. Follow the prompts; Hangar lands in /Applications.
  3. Open Hangar and allow notifications when asked, so finished sessions can reach you.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel (universal app)
  • Claude Code installed for the Claude features
  • Optional: the GitHub CLI, for pull requests in the worktree dashboard

Like any terminal, commands that touch Desktop, Documents or Downloads raise privacy prompts. Granting Hangar Full Disk Access in System Settings, as you would Terminal, avoids them.
